More than 100 million American Adults have some level of hypertension (high blood pressure), greatly increasing their risk of premature death due to heart disease and stroke, while also contributing to a variety of other health concerns. Rural communities often experience higher rates due to lack of access to primary care, healthy food, and/or opportunities for physical activity. Rural residents in Wisconsin face a higher likelihood of being told they have high blood pressure than do urban counterparts, and many more don't even know they have high blood pressure.
